Start with a ready Kiswahili passage, switch to English or a longer practice, and see typing speed, accuracy and corrections. Your own text is optional.
Useful to know
Do I need to add my own practice text?
No. This tool opens with a ready exercise. You can begin typing immediately, change the available practice choices, or open the optional own-text settings below the player.
Is the language content approved for teaching?
The ready practice reuses original locally shipped passages and retained vocabulary. Practice lengths are descriptive, not school grades. Your own text remains its author’s material. The staged Kiswahili course is a separate unpublished educator-review candidate; practice results do not create curriculum approval.
How are accented letters and apostrophes treated?
The engine normalizes text to NFC and uses complete Unicode graphemes. Case, punctuation, spaces and straight/curly apostrophes remain distinct. Draft IME composition is counted only when committed. A current browser with Intl.Segmenter is required for scoring.
Can I pause or practise without a timer?
Yes. Every timed typing workspace has pause and an untimed or calm alternative. A hidden tab pauses active practice and requires explicit resume.
Does this save or upload my text?
No. Session text and progress stay in page memory. There are no accounts, uploads, learner analytics or automatic backups. Downloads are created only when you ask for them.
What are the limits?
Optional personal text up to 2,000 complete characters; event history capped at 20,000 committed characters. NFC graphemes require Intl.Segmenter. Capital letters, punctuation, whitespace and apostrophe shapes remain distinct. WPM appears after 3 active seconds. Paste and assisted edits are blocked by default; enabled assistance is labelled. No uploaded learner text, automatic language review or saved progress. Ready practice uses retained local content. Practice lengths are descriptive; they are not curriculum grades.
Where are my files and inputs processed?
What you type stays in this browser tab and is not uploaded or saved. XP, levels, streaks, badges and best scores are kept in page memory unless you turn on “Save my XP, streak and best scores on this device”. Saving starts off on each visit; turning it off or using Erase saved progress removes the saved record. Typed text is never saved.
